Why is my betting withdrawal pending?
A betting withdrawal usually shows as pending while the operator is still reviewing or processing it, before any money has been sent to your bank, card or e-wallet. Operators licensed in Great Britain must not let you cancel a withdrawal once you have requested it, so the useful checks are the operator’s published approval time, any open verification request, the payment provider’s own timings and, after that, the operator’s official support.
What does “pending” mean for a betting withdrawal?
A withdrawal passes through two stages, and “pending” almost always describes the first. In the first stage the operator reviews, approves and releases the payment. In the second, a bank, card network or e-wallet delivers it. Until the operator has released the money, your bank has nothing to trace.
Operators name the first stage in their own words:
- Unibet uses “Pending” for a request awaiting its own approval and processing, and says that once the money has been passed on it can take up to 3 banking days to reach your bank or e-wallet.53
- bet365 shows “Processing Withdrawal” when a request has been received but not yet processed. It aims to process withdrawals within four hours, occasionally up to 24 hours.11
- LiveScore Bet publishes a processing time and a separate transfer time for each method. For a bank transfer that is up to 24 hours to process, then 2–3 working days to transfer.41
- Coral says its internal review takes approximately up to 24 hours, Monday to Friday, and that the transfer time for your payment method comes after that.60
The Gambling Commission’s guidance for consumers says you can withdraw your money at any time without unreasonable delay or restriction. It adds that a withdrawal may be stopped if unusual activity has been spotted, but that a gambling business should not hold on to your money unnecessarily.61
Can you cancel a pending withdrawal?
No, not with an operator licensed in Great Britain. The Commission’s remote technical standards say consumers must not be given the option to cancel a withdrawal request, and this requirement applies to all remote gambling.62 The ban on these “reverse withdrawals” came into force on 31 October 2021.63 The same standard says that once you have asked to withdraw, you should not be offered the option to deposit using those funds.62
Operator pages reflect the rule. Midnite says a withdrawal cannot be cancelled once submitted, even while it still shows as pending.42 Smarkets says users in the United Kingdom cannot cancel pending withdrawals.47 Some help centres still describe a cancel option meant for other countries: Paddy Power explains cancelling card withdrawals, then notes the feature is not available to UK and Irish customers.43 If a page appears to offer cancellation, ask the operator what applies to your account.
The table shows what each bookmaker we cover says, with its source.
| Bookmaker | What the operator says | Checked |
|---|---|---|
| 10bet | A withdrawal stays pending until 10bet has reviewed and processed it. Pending withdrawals cannot be cancelled by the customer.910 | |
| bet365 | A withdrawal shows as 'Processing Withdrawal' until bet365 processes it, then 'Withdrawal left bet365'. The status list includes 'Cancelled' (by the customer or by bet365), with the funds returned to the bet365 balance. Payments that fail to send or are rejected by the provider are also returned to the balance and the customer is emailed. The pages captured do not explain how a customer cancels a withdrawal.11 | |
| Betdaq | Betdaq withdrawals cannot be reversed or cancelled once requested.12 | |
| Betfair | Betfair says card and Apple Pay withdrawals can be cancelled before Betfair processes them (up to 24 hours), unprocessed bank transfers may be cancellable on request, and other methods cannot be cancelled. The same article also says the 'Reverse' feature is not currently available to UK and Irish customers, so whether UK customers can reverse a pending withdrawal is unclear.13 | |
| Betfred | Betfred asks customers to contact it if a non-BACS withdrawal has not arrived within 12 hours. It combines multiple same-day withdrawals to the same method into one transaction where possible. Under the terms, withdrawals can be delayed or withheld until deposits have cleared, verification is complete, or an investigation is resolved. Betfred's Insights article separately says security and validation checks can take up to 48 hours. No statement on cancelling or reversing a pending withdrawal was found.71415 | |
| BetMGM UK | BetMGM says withdrawals cannot be cancelled once requested. Progress can be tracked on the Wallet page, where the amount stays visible until it has been sent; customers are asked to contact support if a withdrawal has not arrived after 3 working days.16 | |
| BetUK | Withdrawals cannot be cancelled once requested. Progress can be followed on the 'Payout' page, where the amount stays visible until it has been sent.17 | |
| BetVictor | Withdrawals usually take up to 24 hours to be released for processing. BetVictor may pause or cancel a withdrawal for extra checks and return the funds to the balance pending investigation, and may hold funds where deposits have not cleared, verification is outstanding or a security/regulatory review is under way. A withdrawal rejected by the payment provider is returned to the account balance. The BetVictor help article says a withdrawal can be cancelled while it is still pending and not yet processed (it does not mention a GB exception; see researcher notes). If funds have not arrived after 24 hours, BetVictor asks customers to contact support.1819 | |
| Betway | A withdrawal moves through Pending (queued), Processing commenced, Processing completed (sent for payment) and Paid. Betway says it no longer allows customers to reverse withdrawals. Pending withdrawals are reprocessed within 24 hours after the customer updates their payment method.20212223 | |
| BoyleSports | UK-resident customers cannot cancel a withdrawal once requested; the help centre says customers in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland can cancel while it is still queued for internal processing. A withdrawal can stay pending if it failed to process, documents are needed, or further security checks are required. BoyleSports may cancel and reprocess a withdrawal in smaller amounts or to another method, and does not expedite withdrawals on request.24252627 | |
| Coral | Coral's internal review team checks and approves every withdrawal before payment. Coral's help pages say UK customers can no longer cancel or reverse a withdrawal, including the 2-hour reversal window offered on Visa Fast Funds elsewhere. A pending withdrawal may be merged with an earlier unprocessed one. It is cancelled and returned to the balance if a bet resettlement puts the account into a negative balance. Withdrawals from the separate Sports and Gaming wallets are taken from the wallet the customer chooses. Status is shown under Cashier > Payment history.12829303132 | |
| Kwiff | Kwiff says most withdrawals complete in under 30 minutes; where extra security or verification checks are needed it aims to finish them within 24 hours, and after approval most customers receive funds within 30 minutes, though some banks take longer. Withdrawal requests are final and cannot be cancelled (Kwiff cites the UKGC ban on reverse withdrawals). Customers whose withdrawal has been pending more than 24 hours are asked to contact support. Kwiff may withhold payment while it investigates suspicious transactions.333435 | |
| Ladbrokes | Reversing (cancelling) a requested withdrawal is not available to UK customers. All withdrawals are reviewed and must be approved by the internal review team before funds are paid, and pending withdrawals may be merged into one request. Withdrawal status can be checked in the cashier's payment history. Ladbrokes may cancel a withdrawal request in listed circumstances, such as third-party payment methods, unmet promotion terms or missing photo ID.3637383940 | |
| LiveScore Bet | Withdrawals cannot be cancelled. A requested withdrawal leaves the balance immediately and shows as 'Pending' for up to 24 hours while it is processed, then 'Confirmed' once sent; confirmed funds cannot be retrieved. Payments to a closed bank account or entered with wrong details are usually returned within 30 days and re-credited to the account.241 | |
| Matchbook | Not published in the pages we checked | |
| Midnite | A withdrawal cannot be cancelled once submitted, including while it still shows as pending.42 | |
| Paddy Power | The Payment Methods FAQ describes cancelling card withdrawals (requests before 8pm GMT cancellable until midnight that day; later requests until midnight the next day) but says the feature is not currently available to UK and Irish customers. No UK reversal option is therefore published.43 | |
| QuinnBet | Once submitted, a withdrawal cannot be cancelled or reversed. If the customer's bank rejects a withdrawal, the funds are returned to the account balance.4445 | |
| Sky Bet | After a withdrawal request, the customer is told on screen whether it succeeded, and the account balance clears by the amount withdrawn. Several withdrawals may reach the bank in a different order from the requests. After 5 working days, Sky Bet can supply an Acquirer Reference Number (ARN) within 24 hours to help the bank trace a card payment. No option to cancel or reverse a pending withdrawal was found.346 | |
| Smarkets | UK customers cannot cancel a pending withdrawal; Smarkets attributes this to UK Gambling Commission guidance.4748 | |
| Spreadex | Withdrawals from the fixed-odds wallet cannot be cancelled. For the spread betting wallet, customers can ask Spreadex to remove the option to cancel online withdrawal requests.49 | |
| talkSPORT BET | A withdrawal can take up to 24 hours to be released while compliance and security checks are done. GB customers cannot cancel pending withdrawals (the operator cites GB Gambling Commission rules from 1 June 2020). The security team may cancel a withdrawal for additional checks and return the funds to the account pending investigation. Withdrawals may be held until deposits have cleared, verification is complete, security checks are done and any wagering requirement (the article gives the example of wagering 100% of the deposit) has been met. Withdrawals rejected by the payment provider are returned to the account.5051 | |
| Unibet | Withdrawals cannot be cancelled or reversed once requested; Unibet attributes this to a UK Gambling Commission requirement. A withdrawal shows as Pending while awaiting Unibet's approval and processing, then Successful once it has been passed to the bank or e-wallet, after which it can take up to 3 banking days to arrive. Amounts reversed (for example for a method not in the customer's name or missing documents) return to the account balance.525354 | |
| Virgin Bet | Withdrawals cannot be cancelled. A requested withdrawal leaves the balance immediately and shows as 'Pending' for up to 24 hours while it is processed, then 'Confirmed' once sent; confirmed funds cannot be retrieved. Payments to a closed bank account or entered with wrong details are usually returned within 30 days and re-credited to the account.5556 | |
| William Hill | William Hill says customers in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have not been able to reverse withdrawals since 30 June 2020; reversal while a withdrawal is 'pending' is described for non-UK customers. Some method sections (Skrill, Neteller, Bank Transfer) still say a withdrawal can be reversed while it is being approved, without a UK exception. A Visa Direct withdrawal showing 'Pending' beyond four hours may be held for further internal checks, including ID requests.575859 |
How to check a pending withdrawal, step by step
- Read the status in your betting account. Use the cashier or payment history, not your banking app. Coral, for example, shows the status of each withdrawal under Cashier, then Payment history.1 Note the date and time of the request, the amount and the payment method.
- Work out which stage it is in. A status such as Pending or Processing means the operator has not released the money. A status showing it has been sent means any remaining wait sits with the bank or provider. LiveScore Bet, for example, says a withdrawal shown as “Confirmed” has been sent.2
- Compare the wait with the operator’s published time for that stage. Count in the operator’s own unit: hours, working days or banking days. Sky Bet reminds customers that bank holidays are not working days.3 The working-day calculator counts working days around UK bank holidays.
- Look for an open request for documents. Check your account messages and the email address registered with the operator. Many operators’ terms make completed checks a condition of withdrawal, bet365’s among them.4 See withdrawal verification for what can legitimately be asked.
- If the money has left the operator, consider the payment route. Pay.UK says a Faster Payment between participating banks is usually available almost immediately but can sometimes take up to two hours, and some payments take longer, especially outside normal working hours.5 Bacs Direct Credit, the batch system organisations use to pay many people at once, runs on a three-day cycle.6 Betfred, for example, says its BACS payments usually take three working days.7 For card payouts sent through Mastercard Send, Mastercard says the posting time depends on the receiving bank.8
- Contact the operator’s official support once its published time has passed. The withdrawal enquiry checklist lists the details to have ready.
What can make a withdrawal take longer?
Checks and holds. BetVictor lists reasons a withdrawal may be held, including deposits that have not fully cleared, verification still pending, documents not yet submitted and a security or regulatory review.18 William Hill says some Visa Direct withdrawals need further internal checks that can take processing past four hours.58
Money back in your balance. An operator can cancel a withdrawal itself. BetVictor says withdrawals may occasionally be cancelled for additional verification checks, with the funds returned to your account pending the investigation.19 talkSPORT BET says the same.51 Coral cancels a pending withdrawal and returns it to your account if a bet resettlement puts the account into a negative balance.31 If this happens, ask the operator what it needs before requesting the withdrawal again.
Merged or split. Ladbrokes may merge a withdrawal with an earlier one that has not been processed yet.38 Unibet may split one withdrawal across the methods you deposited with.54
Weekends and bank holidays. BetVictor says UK bank transfer withdrawals requested on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday are processed on Monday, once banks are open.64 Withdrawals at weekends and bank holidays explains which stages these days affect.
The receiving bank. Pay.UK notes that a receiving bank sometimes cannot take a payment immediately, for example because of an operational issue or because the account does not permit immediate posting.65
When to contact the operator, and when your bank
Contact the operator while the withdrawal is still pending on its side and its published time has passed. Some operators name a point to get in touch. Betfred says to contact it if a non-BACS withdrawal has not arrived within 12 hours.7 BetVictor asks customers to contact support if a withdrawal has not arrived after 24 hours.18 Sky Bet asks customers to allow the full 5 working days for standard withdrawals before getting in touch.3 For withdrawals paid through Trustly, Trustly says that if the money has not arrived within 72 hours, you should contact the merchant first to confirm it has been processed on their side.66
Contact your bank only once the operator confirms the money has been sent and the transit time has passed. For card withdrawals, Betfair and Paddy Power can give you an Acquirer Reference Number (ARN) to help your bank trace the payment, but not until 5 working days have passed.6768
Use only the contact routes shown on the operator’s own website or app, ideally while logged in. The Commission advises giving full details, including dates, times and amounts, and keeping a copy of everything you send.69 Never share your password, and do not post account screenshots publicly.
How to complain if a withdrawal stays pending
Complain to the operator first and follow its complaints process.69 The business has 8 weeks from receiving your complaint to resolve it.69
If you are not satisfied with the operator’s result, the Commission says that after 8 weeks you can take the complaint to an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) provider, a free and independent service.70 Use the provider your operator names. The operator should tell you which one and may give you a “deadlock letter” confirming you can go to it.70 Providers differ: bet365 issues a complaint reference for the Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS),71 while Unibet uses eCOGRA.72
The Gambling Commission is a regulator, not an ombudsman. It cannot resolve individual complaints, including problems with withdrawals, or help you get money back.73 It does record complaints, and information that suggests a breach of its rules can inform regulatory action.73 If you live in Northern Ireland, check the operator’s website for which licence and complaints procedure apply to you.74
What BookiePayout cannot do
BookiePayout is an independent publication. We cannot see your betting account, contact an operator for you, speed up a withdrawal or recover money, and we are not a regulator or a dispute-resolution service. Please do not send us account details, documents or screenshots.
