Minimum deposits at UK bookmakers compared
For customers in Great Britain, the lowest minimum deposits that UK bookmakers publish are usually £5 or £10, but the figure depends on the payment method as much as the bookmaker, and some bookmakers publish no minimum at all. A deposit is your own money, not a bonus, and the minimum you can withdraw is not always the same as the minimum you can deposit. The table shows the lowest published minimum deposit for each of the 24 bookmakers we checked, by method, with the date we checked it.
How this page is funded: BookiePayout does not currently earn commission from any bookmaker on this page. If that changes, paid links will be labelled and will not change what we say, the order or which bookmakers are included. Affiliate disclosure.
How to read this comparison
Each row shows the lowest minimum deposit a bookmaker publishes on its UK payment pages, and for which method. “Not published” means we found no figure on the pages we checked, not that there is no minimum; the cashier may show one. Figures are what each operator states, in pounds, with the date we checked them and a numbered link to the source. The table is about deposit amounts only. It does not compare bonuses or offers, and a low minimum is not a recommendation to deposit.

What the published minimums show
The method sets the minimum, not just the bookmaker. bet365 lists £5 for debit cards, £25 for PayPal and £100 for a manual bank transfer.8 Betfair asks for £5 by Pay by Bank but £20 by standard bank transfer, and Paddy Power £5 against £30.1162 Smarkets sets a £25 minimum for PayPal alongside a £250 daily maximum, although its separate PayPal article still says £20.6592
The lowest figures come with conditions. The lowest published amount is £1, for cash deposits through William Hill PLUS in William Hill shops; it needs a PLUS card and is only available if your account is funded by no more than two debit cards or cash.9091 Online, Sky Bet says there is no minimum for Pay by Bank deposits, though its Pay by Bank minimum withdrawal is £5.9394 Unibet’s bank transfer deposit page gives the minimum and maximum as “None”.95
Many minimums are not published at all. In the pages we checked, Betfred, Betway, LiveScore Bet, QuinnBet and Virgin Bet give no minimum deposit figure for any method.96979899100 The Gambling Commission says a business should tell you about any minimum deposit limits or fees when it offers digital payment services such as Apple Pay, and must give you information about account fees when you open an account.101102 Where no figure is published, the cashier shows the limits for each method.
Minimum deposits and minimum withdrawals are not the same
A small deposit can leave a balance below the withdrawal minimum for your method. Published examples:
- BoyleSports accepts deposits from £5 but sets a £10 minimum withdrawal to all payment methods.3334
- 10bet lists a £10 minimum card deposit, but its own payments page gives two card withdrawal minimums: £10 in the withdrawal panel and £5 in its table and text.1
- William Hill takes paysafecard deposits from £10 but pays those withdrawals by bank transfer, with a £25 minimum.90
- Matchbook sets £10 for card deposits and withdrawals, but £500 for a bank transfer withdrawal.50
Small balances have their own rules. BetVictor says a balance from £1 up to £5 can be withdrawn by contacting Customer Services, a balance under £1 will not be processed, and it may pass on a reasonable processing fee.2126 talkSPORT BET sets a £5 minimum, says balances below £1 cannot be processed, and says a reasonable processing fee may apply.75 BetMGM UK and BetUK take withdrawals under £10 through Customer Support and may deduct a reasonable fee.1619 QuinnBet has no minimum for British players, but withdrawals under £10 need Customer Service.103 For more on limits, see withdrawal limits and fees.
A deposit is your money, not free money
A deposit moves your own money into a betting account. The Gambling Commission says you can withdraw your money at any time without unreasonable delay and do not have to take it in instalments.104 The Competition and Markets Authority’s advice says you should be free to stop playing at any time and keep what is left of your deposit and the winnings from it.105 Money held by a gambling business is not protected in the way bank deposits are, and the business must tell you whether it is protected if it becomes insolvent.106
A “no deposit” offer is something else: a promotion with its own terms, which this page does not cover or compare. Nothing in the table is an offer, and a low minimum is a payment threshold, not a reason to gamble.
Voucher amounts and phone-bill caps
paysafecard vouchers. UK paysafecard codes are sold in values of £10, £25, £40, £50, £75 and £100, and a payment made with codes alone is capped at £40.107 Some bookmakers’ paysafecard minimums are lower than the smallest voucher: bet365 lists £5.8 Money left on an unregistered voucher attracts a £4 monthly fee after the first 30 days, and having it paid back out usually costs £6.108 Coral, Ladbrokes and William Hill take UK paysafecard deposits only from a paysafecard account, not from vouchers alone.90109110 See paysafecard betting sites.
Phone-bill payments. UK networks limit phone-bill payments to £40 per transaction and £240 a month, the thresholds set in the Payment Services Regulations 2017.111112 None of the bookmakers we cover list phone-bill payments (0 of 24); see pay by mobile betting sites.
Related questions
Do bookmakers charge for small deposits?
Most state no deposit fee: BetMGM UK and BetUK say they do not charge for deposits, though your bank or payment provider may.1518 One exception sits outside sports betting: Spreadex’s financial trading payments page reserves the right to charge £1 on debit card deposits under £50, a sentence its sports payments page does not include.74113
Is there a maximum deposit as well?
Yes, at some bookmakers. Coral and Ladbrokes cap any single deposit at £2,000 for UK customers on every method.3847 BetVictor and talkSPORT BET list £5 to £1,000 as the UK deposit range for debit cards.2276
Which figure applies when a bookmaker’s pages disagree?
We record contradictions rather than choose between them. Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ Pay by Bank FAQs give a £5,000 maximum deposit, while their deposit pages cap any single UK deposit at £2,000.38414749 Where pages disagree, ask the bookmaker which figure applies to your account and keep a note of its answer.
Bookmaker guides and help
Each bookmaker guide lists every method with its published minimums, maximums and sources. If a small balance will not withdraw, read declined or returned withdrawals. If gambling is costing more than you intended, the Gambling Commission lists organisations that can help, and GAMSTOP offers free self-exclusion from gambling websites and apps licensed in Great Britain.114
