PayPal betting sites: withdrawal conditions compared
Of the 24 UK bookmakers we compared, 16 list PayPal on their UK payment pages and 14 state that you can withdraw to it. Most only pay a withdrawal to PayPal if you deposited with PayPal, and stated PayPal times run from hours to working days depending on the bookmaker and the stage it describes. PayPal itself only allows gambling payments with merchants it has approved.
How this page is funded: BookiePayout does not currently earn commission from any bookmaker on this page. If that changes, paid links will be labelled and will not change what we say, the order or which bookmakers are included. Affiliate disclosure.

How to read this comparison
The table shows every bookmaker we cover, including those that do not list PayPal. For each PayPal row you can see whether deposits and withdrawals are stated, the bookmaker’s own processing time, the payment transfer time, any single figure it gives (and whether it says which stage that covers), the minimum withdrawal, fees and the conditions it attaches. A blank stage shows as “not published”, never as instant.

How PayPal works for betting payments
PayPal accounts for UK residents are provided by PayPal UK Ltd, an electronic money institution authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority.47 PayPal treats gambling, including sports betting, as an activity a business needs PayPal’s approval to accept,48 and says that account holders may not send or receive gambling payments, including winnings, with a seller it has not approved.49 That is why a bookmaker either lists PayPal or does not: you cannot simply pay any betting site from a PayPal account.
PayPal does not charge UK personal accounts a fee to pay a merchant, unless a currency conversion is involved,50 and it lists no fee for moving a personal PayPal balance to a UK bank account or card without a conversion.50 It adds that the name on your bank account should match your PayPal account exactly, or a transfer from PayPal to the bank could fail.51
Because PayPal is an e-wallet, the Gambling Commission’s credit card ban reaches it too: a credit card cannot be used to fund gambling through an e-wallet.52 William Hill, for example, says UK customers cannot deposit by PayPal using funds from a credit card.46
Two separate waits: the bookmaker, then PayPal
A PayPal withdrawal from a bookmaker usually involves two steps. First the bookmaker reviews and releases the money to your PayPal account; the table shows what each states for that. Then, if you want the money in your bank, PayPal moves it: PayPal says an instant transfer to an eligible debit card or bank account typically takes a few minutes, up to 30 minutes, and offers a standard transfer as well.51 PayPal also says transfers can be reviewed and delayed, and that a withdrawal request cannot be cancelled.4751
Differences between bookmakers
- Deposit with PayPal first. Most bookmakers return withdrawals to the method you deposited with. Ladbrokes and Coral, for example, say withdrawal to PayPal needs a successful PayPal deposit within the last six months.2024 bet365 says funds deposited by PayPal are paid back to the PayPal account used.3
- Name and account matching. Betway says only one PayPal account can be registered at a time and it must be in your name,14 and Paddy Power says the PayPal account must be in the account holder’s name.35
- Bookmakers that do not take PayPal. Sky Bet says it no longer accepts PayPal,36 and Spreadex says it does not currently accept deposits from e-wallets, naming PayPal.40
- Times that disagree. Smarkets’ PayPal article says withdrawals are processed within 1 to 2 business days, while its newer payment methods page gives a 6-hour processing time and a separate arrival window.3738 10bet’s payment page gives different PayPal minimums and maximums in its table and in its withdrawal panel.1 We show the figures as published and flag the conflict.
Questions people ask
Can I withdraw to PayPal if I deposited by card?
Usually not, unless you have also deposited with PayPal. Bookmakers generally pay withdrawals back to the methods you deposited with, often in proportion to what you put in through each. Each bookmaker guide explains its own rule; see declined or returned withdrawals for what happens when the method you ask for is not allowed.
Is a PayPal withdrawal faster than a card withdrawal?
It depends on the bookmaker. Some state the same processing time for every method; others give PayPal its own figure. Several bookmakers now state faster card payouts than PayPal through Visa Fast Funds or Visa Direct. Compare both in fast withdrawals compared.
Does PayPal charge fees on betting withdrawals?
PayPal’s UK fees page lists no fee for paying a merchant or for moving a sterling PayPal balance to a UK bank account or card, while currency conversions are charged.50 A bookmaker can set its own fees and minimums; the table shows what each publishes.
Can I block gambling payments through PayPal?
Yes. PayPal UK offers an optional Gambling Block under Payment controls, and if you turn it off there is a three-day cooling-off period before gambling payments are possible again.53 For other tools and support, see responsible gambling.
